Pastor’s Corner

60 years of Service
This week we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth the second. It was while travelling in Kenya that she heard of the death of her father and assumed the role of sovereign. In the ensuing 60 years she has see off many Prime Ministers, and brought a degree of stability and continuity to the country. She has also seen the transformation of the old British Empire to the Commonwealth of Nations.
Throughout these years she has been sustained by her own faith, and has taken her coronation vows very seriously, as those commitments made to her people and to God.
Let us, amid the celebrations, remember to give thanks for the influence and sense of unity she brings to our nation, and pray for her and her family in the various tasks they undertake.
In the words of the seldom used third verse of the National anthem—
May she defend Thy laws
And ever give us cause,
To sing with heart and voice,
God save the Queen!
And ever give us cause,
To sing with heart and voice,
God save the Queen!
